The Backstory:
John Lennon changes the sign of West 74th street on Broadway to “Sgt Pepper Way” to promote the Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band On The Road musical in 1974.
Independent of the later Broadway musical, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the eighth studio album by the Beatles and was released in May 1967. Recorded in over 400 hours during a 129-day period, the album helped define the 1967 Summer of Love, and was instantly recognised as a major leap forward for modern music. The Beatles pushed boundaries within the studio, creating sounds which had never before been heard. They made extensive use of orchestras and other hired musicians, and combined a variety of musical styles for their eights album.
